WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LEARN?

Have you ever asked yourself that question? Has it ever occurred to you that you need to learn something? We shouldn't always be told what to do at particular stages of our lives. The most annoying thing about learning is the common act of parents choosing for their children what course to study in tertiary institution. Children should be asked by their parents what their aspirations and likes are, they need to be listened to when it comes to making decisions about their futures.

A lot of youths are in various universities, polytechnics, colleges and schools studying courses they don't have passion for and as a result are not performing as expected by their parents. This is because most of them want to study another discipline entirely but with the pressure of parents / guardians who want them to study that Medicine, Law or Engineering, they end up performing below expectations.

You might want to say that the parents know what is best for their children, well that might be true but at the same time, the child's likes has to be considered. When parents dialogue with their children on choice of career, the children actually knows what that ambition of him or her entails and in case of a change plans, the parents can now come in to give advice and help in choosing life carers.

Youths want their opinions to be given consideration when it comes to what they want to learn. Many young people want to deviate from the norm of studying courses like Law, Engineering, Medicine, Literature, Pharmacy, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration among the numerous 'lucrative courses' and actually study the likes of Music, Decoration, Graphic Designing, Arts and Crafts, Modelling and so many other disciplines that are not well regarded by parents.
They nurture these dreams for many years and get heartbroken when they are being forced to study any of the so called ' lucrative courses ' by their parents.

I think it is high time we started asking ourselves ' what exactly do we want to learn?' as youths. Because I tell you, some individuals don't know what they want to learn not even study. Studying is different from learning in this aspect because you might not necessarily need to go to the university or polytechnic to learn that particular thing you like. But you need to attend a tertiary institution to study those other courses.

Parents should also ask their children what exactly it is they want to learn and in some cases too, study. If the child is involved in making decisions about his or her career, he or she puts more focus on how to achieve the goals of that career and wouldn't be lackadaisical when he or she is required to be up and doing.

Youths should try to look at their inner self and determine what they want to learn and actually follow it up with the right attitude that will enable them achieve their goals. Parents should also help their children in deciding what is best for them.

If I were asked the question ' what do you want to learn?', my reply would be ' I want to learn how to blow things up with my mind. LOL.
On a more serious note, I really want to learn' HOW TO SPEAK TO MILLIONS OF PEOPLE AND HAVE THEIR ATTENTION FOR THE DURATION OF MY SPEECH!. Though I've began doing this, I still need to learn how to perfect my speaking skills. I want to be a Motivational Speaker, A Revolutionary Leader of a great nation.

Now tell me, what do you want to learn?
