BEING GRATEFUL
Being grateful? Are we really grateful for everything in our
lives? Are we more complaining than being appreciative of who we are and what
conditions we are in be it living or otherwise? Is there an end to how grateful
we should be?
These are the questions I do ask myself at times. I don't
want to sound like a *know-it-all* kind of person but I guess most of us aren't
thankful enough for who we are, what we are and what we've been. How many times
do we thank God every day for having complete set of limbs and legs? Do we ever
thank God for the way our body is being structured? Is our self-love channelled
to being appreciative of our we are?
Every other day, we meet people with physical disabilities,
we relate with them (some of us though), some of us see them as humans some
people don't, some of us have sympathy, some empathy and some others, none of
the above. But is all of these channelled to being thankful to God for how He
made us even when any of us could have been with such disabilities? Are we
always thankful to God for those lovely set of hands and legs and the fingers
and the toes and the waist / hip and the face in general? Do we see it as being
"privileged or lucky"? Do we think it's just normal for us to be
"the complete beings"?
We often look away from the facts that we're made by the
same God who created these people with physical disabilities. Some people even
go as far as discrimination these set of people. I personally think that we
need to have a rethink on the subject of being "indefinitely grateful to
God.
I wouldn't want to sound all" religious and
scripture-like", but I think it's high time we started being more thankful
to God for how He has created us and the conditions we are in. I tell people at
times that "being able to complain of you look, the condition you're in,
the kind of fate you have and your life in total is a very big reason for you
to be thankful to God".
Some people are dead, some are bedridden, some can't talk,
some can't walk, some are in non-ending comas, many have worse fates, many want
to have the kind of lives we have even if it is short lived. Now tell me, why
shouldn't we be always grateful to God for all he's done for us? Some are
always thankful, some are appreciative once in a while, some people think it's
just law of nature that is in play.
We all need to be more grateful to God for what he's done
for us and also learn to love everyone around us irrespective of gender, race,
ability or disability.
Being grateful, how grateful are we to the Almighty? Let's
ask ourselves, let's ruminate on that, let's change our ways.
