GRATITUDE

GRATITUDE

As humans, we're mostly quick to complain about the things we don't have than to be grateful for the things we have. Gratitude comes second for most people because as humans, we're insatiable. We always want, even when it seems we have virtually everything we need already.

People complain about having too small or too big set of eyes, maybe they've forgotten about the blind people. A lot of people complain about the shape of their bodies, maybe they've forgotten that some people are in body bags, mortuary or six feet underground. Some
people complain about the shape and size of their ears, probably they do not remember those who have ears but are deaf.

For the many things we have and we don't appreciate often, we complain about so many other things. At times, we worry over trivialities even when we're blessed with necessities. It is common to hear people complaining about eating the same kind of food every time, maybe we need to remind ourselves of people dying of hunger and starvation. It is in human nature to always want more and it is not bad so to say but how often are we grateful for the things we have?

No matter how comfortable we are as humans, it is in our configuration to always want more though at times, to detrimental extent. A lot of people try to impress others with their living conditions forgetting that some people are way below them. It is common to hear tenants of apartments cry about being in someone else's house, maybe we need to remind ourselves of those homeless and hopeless ;sleeping on the streets, under bridges and in shacks.

The narrative so far does not mean that we shouldn't be ambitious or demanding of a better standard of living. The crux of the matter is for us to be more grateful for the several things we have that others might not possess, for our current situations, for our states of mind and our lives in general. Human development and evolution requires us to always want more pleasurable and favourable conditions but we shouldn't forget to always be grateful to the Almighty.

Gratitude before complaints. Be grateful as much as you're prayerful or hopeful of better conditions. This is just an honest opinion and not a criticism of anyone. Hopefully, we all would learn to be more grateful in every situation of our lives. I'm Quadri AbdulQudus Bolaji by name and I'm grateful for everything, are you?
