SUSPENSION OF MAGU; NEEDS TO RE-INVESTIGATE GANDUJE'S BRIBE
SUSPENSION OF MAGU; NEEDS TO RE-INVESTIGATE GANDUJE'S BRIBE
It is often said that in an unjust society, silence is a crime and all onlookers are cowards. The concept of probing as well as invitation for questioning are serving the same linguistics purposes. The only difference in the two terms is its politeness.
On Monday, 6th of July, 2020, as read on news outlet, the arrest of the former acting chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu. It is no longer a news, the allegations levied against the former EFCC boss which include: leakage of investigation reports (which is not clear to the populace who it was being leaked to), discrepancies in the reconciliation records of the EFCC and the Federal Ministry of Finance on recovered funds, rebooting of recovered loots, failure in providing evidences against some suspects (maybe Ganduje is inclusive) and/or in particular, Diezani Madueke, disregard for rule of law, allege corruption of #1trillion among others.
Having reviewed the accumulated allegations against the former EFCC boss, it is evident that he (Ibrahim Magu) is a person of questionable character. Far back as 2017, a video of Abdullah Ganduje, the governor of Kano state was quite popular to early 2019. Between those years (2017-2019), Ganduje was alleged to have taken kickbacks (bribe/ returns) from contractor(s). During this time, the former EFCC boss (Magu) investigated Ganduje's bribery case where he failed to speak for or against Ganduje; even when questions were directed to Magu regarding Ganduje's bribery case, he parried it and changed the discourse. In 2018, Magu claimed to have visited London for forensic analysis of Ganduje's bribery video. Yet, the case was dismissed by one Justice Egwu atunwa on the basis that the provided evidence did not record the effect of EFCC forensic analysis.
In Magu's comment " you cannot investigate him (Ganduje) for two reasons. One, because he is a sitting governor. Two, it's subjudice". Meanwhile, sometimes before Ganduje's scandal, the sitting governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose was investigated by the same former EFCC boss. In order to clear the air, the weekly Law report of 2002 cited in volume7, the supreme Court states "...that a sitting governor can be investigated..." (Fawehinmi VS Inspector General of Police).
Conclusively, it is evident that the former EFCC boss has disregarded the rule of law and trampled upon democracy with his acts and dealings. He should not only be suspended as the acting chairman of the EFCC but also other suitable punishment should be mete out on him. However, Mr Ibrahim Magu has used his good office in disguise and perpetrated evil(s). It is equally worthy to note that Mr Ibrahim Magu did not made an adequate investigation on Ganduje's bribery case, hence, the needs to re-investigate the case unless it will trample on the presidential impunity.
As earlier stated, in an unjust society, silence is a crime and all onlookers are cowards.
