The Bold Type : A Personal Review
The Bold Type: Personal Review
Movie lovers are very selective people. You could either choose to fall in love with sci-fi, romance, comedy, thrillers /action or sociopolitical-based movies. I'm quite an all-rounder when it comes to movies. I believe that every category of movie is distinct and as such has something different to offer viewers (that's if the viewer wants to gain something from it though)
I started seeing the series 'The Bold Type' few years back (3 years ago). Oftentimes than not, you see movies or series based on reviews of others or popularity but that wasn't the case with this particular series. No one told me about it, I just stumbled upon it on a very boring day I was looking for something to keep me busy. The title *The Bold Type* was quite enticing. So I decided to check it out: that has been one of the best decisions I've ever made in my entire life.
The particular series centres around ladies generally. It has a very strong feminism voice. True feminism if I might say, not the misconstrued form of feminism that is popular these days. The main character are three (3) young ladies who work in a feminine fashion magazine company. Two of them are white while the last one is a Black American.
Before I started seeing this movie, I had a sketchy knowledge of feminism in its true form. I've had friends claim to be feminists but I have seen them actually go against what they presume to stand for. Feminism doesn't actually translate to 'apathy towards male' nor does it connote 'pretending to run alone as a lady when you can even crawl'. I learnt this and several other key areas of feminism in this series.
Racial differences and discrimination, human prejudices, complexity and intricacy are a few among the many issues that are treated in this series. Also, the series highlights what it feels like to be 'gay, straight or bisexual' . The acceptance, the judgments and the discrimination that comes with people's sexuality is also well treated in this particular series.
The Bold Type is what people would rather call 'a chick flick'. But personally, I think it is essential every evolutionary-minded individual should see it. The focus is quite on women but it is on women to show men what it feels like to be a woman (of all sexuality, race, religion and ideology). It is an all round series that treats the intricate aspects of being a woman and also how to cope with a woman especially when she's 'being a woman'
I'm not much of a series critic but I would recommend this movie for every lady irrespective of age, religion, culture, ideology or perception towards womanhood and feminism. And also to guys who would love to have a clear glimpse of what sometimes goes on in the mind of ladies. Understanding our complexities and intricaies as humans has been one of humanity's biggest problems. I think this particular series has done quite a lot to break down differences in humans, highlights problems and have also proffered solutions to the several interpersonal problems that arises from dealing with humans not just ladies
