TODAY’S WALK: A COMPETITIVE WORLD

Today’s walk was that usual morning walk from Cape Town (Ile Apa) to Faculty of Agriculture mosque which is my everyday routine coming from home to school. This particular exercise takes place mostly in the morning due to my 8am lectures. This morning walk has been my routine for the past two years so it wasn’t a special thing or occurrence. I expected it to be the usual thing i do every day so I never paid attention to any new thing and never expected some different to happen until a particular experience happened. This experience in question taught me a very good lesson about life.
I set off very early in the morning in order to be punctual to my 8am lecture at Faculty of Arts. On getting outside, I met my neighbour living next door on the way and we both began the journey together after we exchanged pleasantries. On our way to school, we met other colleagues on the way and walked past them. After trekking for a few minutes, I noticed that he was walking fast just to beat time for his lecture in order not to get to class late just the way I was trying to prevent lateness. Something in me didn’t want him to leave me behind and move past me so I increased my pace and speed.
There was no other reason for doing this aside the fact that I just wanted to be in front and subsequently the first to get to the school (spirit of competition in me). I didn’t like the idea of me getting to school after him but I liked the idea of being the first to get to the school. We met several other people on our way but we walked past them because we were actually walking faster while they were either strolling or walking at normal paces. But the spirit of competition in me was propelling me to increase my pace and get to school before every other person.
This went on for 20 minutes and suddenly, I came to the realisation of the concept of competition in life. Competition makes us work harder in order to stay atop of the ladder ahead of others. It makes us increase our efforts and inputs into our endeavours. Competition made me increase my pace in order to get to school before every other person. It made me increase my speed and determination, focus and dedication. I achieved my aim by getting to school before everyone including my neighbour.
This life is a competitive one and we all must stay focused, determined and dedicated to our goals in order to achieve greatness before it gets too late or irrelevant. Let us  continue to compete for us to always stay winning and getting ahead of others.
I am Quadri Qudus Bolaji a.k.a QIDAKINGIN and I love this competitive world. Do you?
