To A Friend I Once Had

To A Friend I Once Had

I remember how life used to be so simple with the two of us as best buddies. I remember how we used to go home in that very slow school bus together. I remember how you used to look out for me whenever I needed you and how I used to be the best I could be for you too. I remember how we used to keep sits for each other in class. I remember how you became my very good course mate friend, brother and confidant.

I remember how things started splitting us up. I remember our conversations about people, sport, politics, relationship and music. I remember how you used to be the first person I looked for in class and how we were tagged 'ride or die'. I remember you saying that things were going to be alright even if you weren't sure about them. I remember how you'd ask me if I had money on me and always made sure we both had something to spend.

I remember our we couldn't go home that day because there was no bus to town and we had to watch that Chelsea game together at Students' Union Building. I remember how we would soak or eat dry garri from plastic bottles. I remember the hood days, the days of forgiveness and compromise, the days of true friendship and brotherhood. I remember all of the other days I've not mentioned, both the good and the bad ones.

I remember the beginning of the end. How things started cracking up, how we couldn't deal with stuffs because of external factors. Life happens, people change, life continues. People get hurt, words fly out, people heal, some forgive, others forget and also forgive. Only if I could turn back the hands of time, I'd give everything to be that close to you again. For what it's worth and all you're worth, I'm very sorry that things turned out badly between us. I still remember you and pray for you. I hope you do the same too. I miss you so much Oluwasegun Abiodun Arinde.
