PERCEPTIONS, OPINIONS AND JUDGEMENTS

PERCEPTIONS, OPINIONS AND JUDGEMENTS

I like to think of myself as realistic, different, sensitive, matter-of-factly, open, communicative and sweet. But this might be in contrast to what some people or a lot of people think about who I am. I could be perceived as overly-sensitive, too emotional, sad / depressed, nonconforming, disruptive or controversial by people who may or may not know me well. But I'm just one human being, one out of over 8 billion people in the world. This is something I've had to deal with and learn how to use to my best advantage.

Our perception of people, things, subjects and ideas may or may not always be correct due to bias, point of view, exposure and experience. It is very normal for people to have divergent opinions on things, subjects and people. But it is equally important to be objective, humane, understanding and open to new ideas, ideologies and standpoints that may arise from our observations, confrontations or conversations with people of different standpoints.

While most of us are so quick to always point a finger, come up with a thought, form an opinion and behavioral pattern towards someone or something, it is important to consider the other side of arguments and opinions. We are always going to be humans with diverse opinions because we have the freewill to broaden our horizon, learn, unlearn and relearn which is a key element of being human. In our diversities and with our differences, we could still give a room for a common ground where everyone's opinion, perception, experience and notion is given a careful and close observation and consideration before coming up with a thought.

Nobody gets it right all the time, but as long as we are ready and open to learning and understanding what makes up the nucleus of the opinions and standpoints of others, we would definitely have less interrelationship problems with ourselves. We all need to be less judgemental, opinionated, conclusive and quick to pass a comment. Rather, we should try to look carefully at and not just see other people, subjects and opinions as this or that. Cheers to unlearning, learning and relearning.

I'm AbdulQudus, peace ✌🏾.

  1. There is this “popular” quote about our opinions as being a reflection of ourselves rather than others. I’m not good at holding sides; I just want to live life.

Fine piece. Keep up the good work.
