GRATITUDE

GRATITUDE As humans, we're mostly quick to complain about the things we don't have than to be grateful for the things we have. Gratitude comes second for most people because as humans, we're insatiable. We always want, even when it seems we have virtually everything we need already. People complain about having too small or too big set of eyes, maybe they've forgotten about the blind people. A lot of people complain about the shape of their bodies, maybe they've forgotten that some people are in body bags, mortuary or six feet underground. Some people complain about the shape and size of their ears, probably they do not remember those who have ears but are deaf. For the many things we have and we don't appreciate often, we complain about so many other things. At times, we worry over trivialities even when we're blessed with necessities. It is common to hear people complaining about eating the same kind of food every time, maybe we need to remind ourselves of...

21st Century Feminists : A Group of Confused Beings?

Feminism like several other theories over the years have been ill-defined and misunderstood by a large number of people (male and female). According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, feminism could be defined as "the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities", "organized activity in support of  women's rights and interests", " the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes" and "organized activity on  behalf of women's rights and interests".  Going by these definitions, we could see clearly that the female gender is strongly advocated for to enjoy the same benefits as their male counterparts and not to "override" the other gender. It is a very strange situation to observe that what is being practised in this part of the world (Nigeria, Africa) is not feminism but "Feminine Superiority". A large number of young ladies and women have wrongfully defined the term feminism to ...

IMPERFECTIONS

Imperfections makes us human. It is the drive of our existence. If we had everything perfect for us, maybe we won't challenge ourselves to be better people. Imperfections are forces that stimulate our development as humans. Imperfections are essential to every man; not for being less but for being better. There are steps to getting better and working towards perfection. These steps must be strictly followed in order to become 'a better version' of one's self. To start with, we must learn to identify and embrace our imperfections. No one is perfectly molded internally and externally, physiologically or psychologically. Something somewhere is usually left behind in the composition of a being. It is important to know whatever it is one's imperfection might be just as it is important to know one's strengths. Moving forward, it is equally important to devise, search and research ways to live with, work with one's imperfections. You need a plan, a guideline or an ...

WHO IS OHIS?

Like a hamburger filled with savory spices, vegetables and edibles, Ohis is a man of many abilities, attitudes, attributes, finesses and capabilities. Every individual sure does have his or her ‘strong areas’ or what the narrow-minded people call ‘specialisation’. These strong areas are what people oftentimes are known for and are usually regarded with.  Ohis, not the tallest or broadest of all men but the intellectual soundness of this man in question is one to be reckoned with. You are not likely to come across people who know quite a lot of about almost everything often; with Ohis, you have a man whose intellectual capability might not be the best around but unarguably one of the best. Mixing the straight, philosophical and doctrinal nature of sociology with ICT coupled with several other distinctive knowledge is not a child’s play. Getting someone who could at any point in time fit-in into the fast-developing and dynamic world nowadays seems a herculean task. Ohis is someone ...

OUR QUOTA TO THE NATION

Every developed and successful country of the world works on the effectiveness and patriotic acts of its citizens. The progress, development and all-round achievement of national goals are deeply-rooted into the good and beneficial acts of a country’s citizens. We all have our roles to play in the development of our country. We have duties and dues to be paid to our motherland (Nigeria). Nigeria cannot survive on her own; the nation needs well-meaning and patriotic citizens to help her become a successful nation both in the African continent and the world at large. Our quotas to the nation might not necessarily be grand and lofty acts of patriotism but the small good acts and deeds we do for the sake of our country, Nigeria. Obeying rules and regulations, paying of taxes, dues and rates as at when needed, engaging in productive and useful manpower contributions, division of labour amongst several others are our quotas to the development of the country.  Nigeria is meant fir greatne...

To A Friend I Once Had

To A Friend I Once Had  I remember how life used to be so simple with the two of us as best buddies. I remember how we used to go home in that very slow school bus together. I remember how you used to look out for me whenever I needed you and how I used to be the best I could be for you too. I remember how we used to keep sits for each other in class. I remember how you became my very good course mate friend, brother and confidant. I remember how things started splitting us up. I remember our conversations about people, sport, politics, relationship and music. I remember how you used to be the first person I looked for in class and how we were tagged 'ride or die'. I remember you saying that things were going to be alright even if you weren't sure about them. I remember how you'd ask me if I had money on me and always made sure we both had something to spend. I remember our we couldn't go home that day because there was no bus to town and we had to watch that Chelse...
